EXPLORING THE POTENTIAL OF THE HUMAN VOICE FOR HEALING AND TRANSFORMATION

Many people have been unfortunate enough to be told, often at an early age, that they cannot sing and as a consequence rarely if ever do. This is a great pity. Singing arouses our deepest feelings. It can be like opening a window to let stale air out of a room.

 When we were children we loved to play with our voices, mimicking the sounds of the world around us, making up melodies and words and singing them over and over again. As we grow older we lose this capacity for playing and many of us never give our voices much reign beyond speaking.

 In the workshops there is no pressure on the individual to sing or perform. The emphasis is on exploring the voice as an instrument of healing and as a vehicle of personal expression, recognising its essential role in revealing our thoughts and feelings. Using traditional instruments (harmonium, Tibetan bowls and drums) to accompany toning and chanting we will also consciously make sound in order to reach a meditative state of silence.

 The voice has an incredible capacity to heal. It can be projected into every cell and molecule and even extend beyond the body to cleanse and energise the auric and astral fields. Upon waves or particles of sound our thoughts and intentions can be carried and information received. Our tone reveals us, betrays us, and announces us. After years of not ‘seeing’ someone a simple hello heard on a phone brings their whole essence flooding back.

In the beginning was The Word, the Big Bang, Aum, the original sound that created the momentum for all of life. We are all part of that sonic momentum, all vibrating at an incredibly intense level singing an unbelievably complex and beautiful electro magnetic symphony. When we add the sound of our voices to this organic orchestra we are joining in with and celebrating the song of creation.

 Anand Meru has been leading sound healing workshops for over ten years. As well as being a regular in the healing fields at Sunrise, Buddhafield, Big Green, Big Chill, One World, Small World and other summer festivals Meru also leads groups throughout the year at various venues throughout the UK. The workshops involve many aspects of healing with sound but are invariably focused on encouraging people to fully explore the range and power of their natural voice particularly through tuning and opening up the seven chakras. The sessions are always accompanied by live music and can be very energetic, incorporating emotional expression and movement as well as meditation and periods of silence. No experience of singing or playing music is necessary.
