    Healthier Food and Special Diets

    (Level 2 Award)

    This Royal Society for Public Health qualification aims to equip candidates with a basic knowledge and understanding of the link between diet and health, and of the application of nutritional principles to providing a healthier diet.

    It will be of particular value in raising awareness in those working or intending to work in providing meals in the following sectors: Catering, including staff providing school lunches, and the cost sector, Hospitality and Leisure, Health and community care, Food manufacturing and Retail food outlets.

    Pre-course entry requirements

    There are no mandatory pre-course requirements. However it is recommended that candidates have literacy and numeracy equivalent to level 1.

    Dates and times

    This is a 1 day course or 2 half days and is also available as a home study course. 

     xamination and assessment

    At the end of the course there is a written exam lasting 45 minutes consisting of 30 multiple choice answers.

    Successful candidates will receive a certificate upon which the grade awarded will be shown.

    Fees

    Course fees will be £150  per candidate.(to include exam fee)

    Syllabus aims and objectives

    The candidate will be able to demonstrate knowledge of:

    • Balanced diets and the importance of good health.
    • Techniques to maintain the highest nutritional value of food used in the preparation, cooking and serving of balanced diets.
    • Government policy and guidelines on healthy eating and how to access them.
    • Demonstrate a knowledge of special diets.
    • Practices to be followed with special diets.

    As with all  Nutritrain Southwest courses it is delivered in a fun and informal way, helping people to identify ways of making dietary and lifestyle changes that can be of immense benefit to their own health and wellbeing and that of others.

    Files and handouts are provided.

    Distance Learning -

    This qualification is available to study by distance learning.

    It consisits of a work book written by Claire Whiles NTTC DNN and an assignment.  On succesful completion of the assignment, the candidate is eligible to sit the RSPH multiple choice exam.

    The exam must be sat at the Nutritrain Southwest Centre in Weymouth, with a choice of 6 dates per year.

    The course fees by distance learning are £150 to include examination fee.
